Couples Therapy - Differing Values

Clients:

Liam (36, dentist/neurodivergent)
Sophia (37, marketing analyst)
Two children, 3 & 5.

Issue:

Liam and Sophia found that they were butting heads in a number of areas in their relationship - how they were parenting, who did what around the house, and involvement of family in their lives. They felt like they wanted different things in these areas, and were finding it hard to strike a middle ground.

How R&L Helped:

The Robertson & Ling couples counsellor provided the couple with key tools and interventions that promoted healthy conversations around these differing values. These interventions allowed the couple to increase their understanding of the other person, and to find ways in which they were willing to compromise for the betterment of their relationship. These interventions also took into account Liam's neurodivergence, and the way in which this impacted how Liam and Sophia communicated with one another.

After a few months, Liam and Sophia felt that things had improved significantly in these areas of their lives and relationship. They also felt that they now had the communicative tools to work through future clashes in values, if they were to arise.
