Couples Therapy &
Relationship Counselling - Recommendations
We want you to get the most out of your experience at Robertson & Ling. Here are some things to keep in mind about the couples therapy and relationship counselling process:
Your therapist will often advise working on certain interventions and strategies between sessions. We see the best results when couples are willing to do this.
Throughout couples therapy and relationship counselling, it may become apparent that you or your partner require individual support of some kind. For example, couples therapy or marriage counselling following a betrayal may require individual psychological assistance. Your counselor will discuss this with you as needed.
Consider frequent appointments early on. Most couples want issues resolved as quickly as possible - which is understandable! We recommend weekly appointments at a minimum, and even a few appointments a week if you can manage it.
We are able to have 90 minute sessions - it can be good to have a little longer to work through issues. Please discuss these with your therapist at any point.
At times, couples therapy and marriage counselling may feel challenging. Don't lose heart - it's common for there to be some bumpy moments when issues are being raised and worked through.
Lastly, and most importantly - well done for seeking relationship counselling or couples therapy. Your courage, vulnerability and commitment in attending should not be underestimated.
